You may not be familiar with all of the services that Tierra Del Sol Automotive offers so here is a quick list and descriptions of some of the typical services that you might need. This list is not all-inclusive so we encourage you to speak to your Tierra Del Sol Automotive service advisor about any needs or services that might not be listed here.
Air Conditioning Service: There are a lot of complex and expensive components in an air conditioning system. However, with the proper care and maintenance, this system will keep you cool throughout the hot summer months living in the desert southwest! Our trained automotive technicians will conduct a thorough inspection of your car’s air conditioner, all NC lines, evaporator and compressor for leaks and wear.
Driveline Service: Because of the heat, moisture, extreme pressure and loads on the driveline over time, the gear oil in a driveline can break down or become contaminated. Broken down and contaminated oil leads to poor lubrication, failure, and worn gears. Tierra del Sol Automotive technicians perform this service by removing old worn-out gear oil from manual transmissions, the front and rear differentials, transaxles, and transfer case. The old worn-out lubricant is replaced with the proper gear oil and/or additive for each particular vehicle.
Changing your fluids when scheduled greatly reduces the wear so internal driveline component life can be prolonged. Servicing the driveline when scheduled is especially important for vehicles with all-wheel and four-wheel drive differentials. They work even harder than conventional two-wheel drive differentials.
With a driveline service, you can reduce major repair costs due to worn gears. You’ll likely experience smoother gear shifting, quieter vehicle operation, and extend your driveline component-life.
Fuel System Cleaning: Over time, your vehicle’s fuel system gets dirty. A fuel system cleaning at Tierra Del Sol Automotive gets rid of built-up varnish and gunk and cleans out the fuel injectors. Using specialized equipment our technicians will quickly and effectively clean intake manifold, ports, intake valves, and combustion chamber. Install injector cleaning additive in the tank.
This service will restore lost power and performance and will reduce harmful exhaust emissions. An added benefit many Alamogordo, Cloudcroft and Tularosa Basin drivers experience from having their fuel system cleaned is increased fuel efficiency, which means better gas mileage.
Headlamp Replacement or Lens Restoration: Halogen and standard headlamps gradually fade, become dim, and eventually burn out. You may also notice that your headlamp lenses have become cloudy or may even be yellow in color. If you notice any of these symptoms with your vehicle headlamp or lens, it is time to consider headlamp replacement or lens restoration at Tierra Del Sol Automotive. For safety reasons, if only one of your headlights burns out, you’ll want to replace both of them. That way, they’ll have the same brightness while driving in dark surroundings. When your headlamp lenses are cloudy or discolored, Tierra Del Sol Automotive technicians can professionally restore them for you to a like-new condition.
Oil Change Service – When you request an oil change service, Tierra Del Sol Automotive technicians will include a vehicle inspection. The inspection may reveal an emerging problem with other vehicle fluids or perhaps even something more significant and safety-related. A full fluids service option is always best because it makes sure you have adequate, fresh, and clean fluids throughout your vehicle. Tierra Del Sol Automotive also offers fluid upgrade options for fluids that can increase your mileage or lengthen the time between your next fluid service.
Experts recommend changing the oil and oil filter in your vehicle every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever is first. It’s an essential way to maximize engine protection. Oil changes at 7,500 miles are usually too long an interval for most common driving conditions. For more information or the specifics for your vehicle check your owners manual or ask one of our friendly service advisors or read one of our articles about the benefits of Synthetic oil.
PCV Valve Service: PCV stands for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. The PCV valve is a one-way passage (a valve) that does two things. First, it controls the escape of gases from the crankcase of a vehicle’s combustion engine. The gases, if not ventilated, would condense and combine with the oil vapor in the crankcase and form sludge. It would also cause the oil to become diluted with unburned fuel, degrading the quality of the oil – reducing the oil’s effectiveness and longevity. Secondly, it releases pressure from the engine which in turn prevents the engine from damage. Excessive crankcase pressure will lead to engine oil leaks past engine seals and gaskets and, in particular, the crankshaft seals. Oil leaks will starve the engine of oil, increase friction and heat permanently damaging your vehicle’s engine. Over time and use, the PCV valve gets dirty, prevents optimal engine performance, and needs to be replaced. It is imperative that a combustion engine has a crankcase ventilation system that is working ideally.
Power Steering Service: Power steering service is often overlooked by many vehicle owners. However, your Tierra Del Sol Automotive technician is always happy to accommodate requests and remind you when they recommend this service. Power Steering service consists of evacuating the old fluid, cleaning out the system and replacing the system with clean fluid. Our technicians use a powerful cleaner to dissolve gum and varnish in your car’s power steering unit. Next, we will flush old, worn-out contaminated fluid and install fresh new fluid fortified with a special antioxidant and anti-wear ingredients to prevent expensive mechanical failure.
Performing regular power steering service as recommended keeps the steering system running well for a long time.
Serpentine Belt Replacement: The serpentine belt is the belt that powers the engine’s accessories like the alternator, air conditioner, power steering, and brakes. Replacing your serpentine belt before it breaks or wears down too much is imperative because when the belt breaks or is too worn down it leads to other, much more costly, problems.
Shocks and Struts Replacement: Before even considering replacement, our technicians start with an inspection of each of your vehicle’s suspension components. Shocks last a long time and wear out slowly, so many Alamogordo motorists don’t notice when it’s time to change them. Our technicians identify worn or leaking shocks and struts and can recognize when it is time to replace them.
Transmission Service: The primary objective of transmission service is to remove the transmission fluid and replace it with clean fluid. Using the latest in state-of-the-art technology, we will install a safe and effective cleaner to suspend harmful varnish and sludge from the transmission valve body, torque converter, and lines. Technicians begin by adding a cleaner to the transmission system and taking your vehicle for a short drive. Driving with the cleaner in your vehicle suspends the dirt and particles to the cleaning fluid in the system, thus removing them from being stuck to the walls and components of the system. Upon return from the drive, the fluid is transfused and replaced with clean fluids. A conditioner is added to prevent oxidation and breakdown of the new fluid while lubricating the seals to keep them soft and pliable.
Tire Rotation, Wheel Balancing, and Alignment: Every vehicle has recommendations regarding tire rotation and the frequency of the rotation needed for your particular vehicle. Technicians rotate tires from front to back using a recommended rotation pattern so the tires wear more evenly.
Wheels need to be balanced from time to time. When wheels start to bounce it causes uneven tire wear, tire hop and quite likely even drivability issues. Keeping your wheels balanced allows them to turn smoothly.
Alignment is not an adjustment of the tires or wheels themselves. Alignment actually refers to an adjustment of a vehicle’s suspension – the system that connects a vehicle to its wheels. Proper alignment is accomplished by adjusting the angles of the tires to contact the road ideally.
If your vehicle is pulling in one direction or vibrating strangely on the road, you might need a tire, or wheel, alignment. Tire alignment can help your tires perform as designed, last longer, and also improve handling as you drive.
Vehicle Inspections: Although Tierra Del Sol Automotive technicians perform regular inspections whenever a vehicle enters the shop, one of the most common reasons a vehicle inspection is performed is because a local or new resident is considering the purchase of a used car. Other reasons include going on a trip, wanting to make sure their vehicle’s ready for a particular approaching season.
Tierra Del Sol Automotive inspections are extensive. There are three very important considerations that Tierra del Sol automotive technicians take while performing a vehicle inspection.
Your safety and the safety of others we all share the roads with is our top priority. If there is anything on your vehicle that needs to be replaced for a safety reason, Tierra del Sol Automotive technicians are going to let you know about it. We strongly recommend that you place a high priority on making these repairs first.
